Susan Pfau, LMFT, RPT is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a registered play therapist. She is currently completing a 1-year behavioral health predoctoral internship at the University of MN St. John’s Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program (2022-23). She has a private practice, teaches Medical Family at St. Mary’s University of MN master’s level, and facilitates young adults living with cancer support groups for Gilda’s Clubhouse Twin Cities (cancer community support. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy at Northcentral University.
Susan specializes in the diagnosis, management of mental health and therapy in the following: ages early childhood (0-5), children, adults, and couples. She has extensive training in DC: 0-5-a diagnostic classification of mental health and development disorders of infancy and early childhood. She is trained in Experiential Play Therapy, Theraplay (attachment-based intervention for caregivers and their children), Sand Tray Therapy and EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Susan changed careers after losing her son (28) to colon cancer. She realized how important mental health support was during those times. Her passion is to walk alongside families experiencing a terminal or serious illness.
