Omar Alejandro Serrano
10/01/1978 – 11/5/2024
Omar was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in March 2024. He courageously faced his diagnosis with a goal of making every doctor and nurse laugh throughout his journey.
During his cancer battle, Omar sought a second opinion at City of Hope, Duarte and was able to meet with Dr. Fong with the help of a grant from PALTOWN’s Second Opinion project. After an almost 8 month battle, Omar transitioned peacefully at home surrounded by his family and dogs while listening to his favorite songs.
Omar led life with humor, kindness, and empathy. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and the family dogs, watching sports, golfing, and DJ-ing.
He was a teacher for over 20 years, ending his career as a special education teacher to high school students. He was a huge mental health advocate and always tried to help others. He talked countless friends and family members through their own experiences with anxiety and depression, lending an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on.
We know Omar would love his legacy to be in service of others by increasing colon cancer awareness and fundraising for the cause to help other families.
Omar and his family found support and connection in PALTOWN’s online community for colorectal cancer patients and caregivers, COLONTOWN. The family requests that donations be sent to PALTOWN to support its Second Opinion Fund for stage IV patients.
