Paltown
PALTOWN’s Second Opinion Project offers support to stage IV CRC patients seeking second opinions. Thanks to the Lu Family Fund, this effort has helped dozens of stage IV patients since its launch in late 2020. Some of them have agreed to share their stories here in the hope that it will inspire others to seek treatment options.
The second opinion saved my life and I am now NED!!!
I was diagnosed Stage 4 colorectal cancer with numerous mets to the liver in April 2020. At that time I had two boys, ages 4 and 6 and a wonderful husband. My local oncologist told me at my first meeting that there was no cure, that I would be on chemo for life, but that life expectancy was not very long. I would not be able to see my boys grow up and I would not live to grow old with my husband. I would not accept this. This is where COLONTOWN and the Second Opinion project came in.
My second opinion had a huge impact on my treatment because I now know if I have to go back I have a top surgeon looking at every option out there to best help me not just what is available locally.
At 32 I was diagnosed with stage 3c colorectal cancer. Devastating to my young family...my wife and I tried to soak in all the information we could find about treatments and options. The surgeon and oncologist we were referred to were very inexperienced and seemed unsure at every turn and every question we asked.
At my 9 month scans 4 lesions were found in my liver. By this time we had found COLONTOWN and it proved to be the most important weapon in our arsenal. My wife, upon hearing I had metastasis to my liver had already researched the best surgeons in the U.S. She had also seen the Second Opinion Project on COLONTOWN, which could help us with traveling expenses. We got an appointment, applied for the Second Opinion Project and we were on our way.
