Dr. Vinod Kumar Chettur

After a year-long battle with colon cancer and complications related to treatment, we are sad to announce the passing of Dr Vinod Kumar Chettur.
Vinod had an incredible sense of humor that helped him through his intense suffering, even joking with his surgeon to not let a Chipotle chicken bowl be his last meal. He fought so valiantly to live until the bitter end. He made a huge impression on everyone that met him. Vinod loved being an ER doctor and served as our whole family’s on call physician. He will continue to be a big part of our lives through all the fond memories, which we will cherish forever.
Over the past year Vinod learned:
- Being a patient is difficult, even if you are able to advocate for yourself.
- Be grateful for the basic things in life… to wake up without pain, to work, to drive, to walk, to eat, to drink water, and to communicate. Vinod used to tell us how his standards kept decreasing.
- Appreciation for your community, friends, family, nurses, and caretakers.
During this difficult time, our family found support and connection in PALTOWN’s online community for colorectal cancer patients and caregivers, COLONTOWN. We request donations be sent to PALTOWN to support its Second Opinion Fund for stage IV patients, in lieu of flowers.
